 Time for a timing belt?

Pit Stop Automotive is your choice in Burbank when considering replacing the timing belt on your vehicle.  This service is critical to maintaining the integrity of your engine and increasing the longevity of your vehicle.

Check your service manual for your specific vehicle to see whether your vehicle has a timing belt (some have timing chains that do not require replacement).  Since there are no warning signs that your timing belt is becoming worn and brittle (and it is not able to be visually inspected), take a moment and consult your Owner’s Manual for recommended mileages at which your vehicle’s timing belt should be replaced.  Generally, replacement should occur between 60,000 and 110,000 miles, or every 7 to 10 years.  Our Service Manager can help advise you on the recommendations for your particular vehicle.

Out of sight and often easily ignored, your vehicle’s timing belt is an integral part of many overhead valve engines.  Although changing a timing belt is not an inexpensive repair, it is significantly less expensive than repairing the resulting damage should that timing belt slip or break.  The timing belt connects the crankshaft to the camshaft(s), controlling the opening and closing of the engine’s intake and exhaust valves.   As the belt ages, it will stretch and crack.  If your timing belt breaks or jumps a tooth, damage can occur on the engine’s head, pistons, and/or valves.

When comparing prices for a timing belt replacement, be sure and ask what is included in the timing belt replacement service.  During this service, it is advisable to also replace the water pump and drive belts, which we always include.  Also, we will check the idler pulleys, tensioner, and seals, so that you are not charged extra labor to access these areas at a later date.   By utilizing an experienced, trustworthy ASE Certified Technician to replace your timing belt, you have strong insurance against being stranded on the side of the road, with possible catastrophic engine damage.
